Phillip Cottingham MEng CEng MIET

I am a chartered engineer with the IET and Director of P & R Power Systems, a specialist consultancy providing high voltage and power systems design, analysis, and technical support. With 30 years of industry experience, I lead on the design, review and commissioning of power systems, infrastructure, and earthing studies ranging from 400V up to 132kV, including complex primary substation projects (currently 1+GW).
My background spans installation, commissioning, and design, with previous roles including Authorised Person (Electrical) on nuclear and generation sites. I bring substantial Quality Assurance and commercial experience managing multimillion pound critical projects across the HV and Power systems sector.
I oversee a wide portfolio of projects and guide a skilled team of power systems engineers, delivering robust, safe, and efficient solutions for clients across healthcare, defense, data centers, energy, and the built environment.

Ryan Smith BEng (Hons) MIET

I am the HV and Power Systems Design Director for P&R Power Systems, a specialist consultancy providing high voltage distribution, power systems design, control system engineering and technical assurance for critical facilities and industrial sites. I specialise in the detailed design phase and role of technical authority for complex electrical infrastructure up to 132kV.
My background spans installation, commissioning and design with roles including resident controls engineer. I specialise in HV distribution and power system design, including network architecture, power system studies utilising ETAP and PSCAD, protection systems, standby generation, earthing and the technical assurance of complex schemes up to 132kV.
Alongside industry delivery, I am a doctoral researcher for industrial electrical networks where I undertake statistical analysis of AC short circuit behaviour and system capability from LV to 33kV, using real world study data to develop safer and more defensible engineering approaches.
